When a painting doesn’t come together, when the parts are stronger than the whole, I cut out the pieces that stand alone with more strength than the original from which they were removed. My first inclination was to call them “fragments” or “abstractions”, but neither of those words really captures what they are. Fragments falls short because they exist as wholes within themselves, and Abstractions is not quite right either because each one is specific and concrete. They are Petites Sensations, small, but full of texture and feeling.

I cut them out to include only what needs to be there. Sometimes they are a bit irregular, and no two are exactly the same dimension. I then mount them on high quality archival paper, with title, initials and date. They look wonderful in a simple wood frame or just on their own leaning on a mantle or a desk, and are priced more affordably than a full sized painting.
